On IRC

The quickest way to reach us, and the most fitting one for a shell host. We are on the BornHack IRC server:

Server: irc.baconsvin.org port 6697, TLS — written +6697 in clients that use that notation, or tick the SSL box in the ones that do not.
Channel: #ShadowSquad

It is a channel, not a helpdesk: staff are there when they are there, and nobody is on call. Ask anyway — someone usually answers, and the people who can help are the people idling in it.

For anything that needs a record rather than a conversation — an abuse report, a billing question, anything you might need to point back at later — use email or the form below. A channel scrolls; a mailbox does not.

Abuse reports are reviewed by moderators and acted upon in accordance with our policies. We do not operate a formal ticket system; email works fine at our scale.

For IRC network operators

ShadowShells is a shell host, and its users connect to IRC from shell.shadowsquad.org. Everything you need to treat us as a known quantity:

Ident: We run RFC 1413 identd on port 113, over IPv4 and IPv6. The reply is the account name and the user cannot change it — spoofing, hiding, numeric and randomised replies are all denied in the daemon configuration, and per-user override files are ignored. A hostmask of nick!account@shell.shadowsquad.org identifies exactly one person, and we can tell you which.
Abuse: abuse@shadowsquad.org, or the web form, which needs no account. Give us the ident and a timestamp and we can act on a single account rather than shrugging at an IP address. We would rather suspend one user than have the whole host banned, and we say so in our acceptable use policy.
Scale: One machine, invite-only, a small number of accounts. We are not a free-for-all VPN or a bulk shell seller, and there is no open signup.
Trusts: If your network grants raised connection limits to hosts that run trustworthy identd, write to hello@shadowsquad.org and we will give you a named contact and answer whatever you need to ask.
Right now: If something is happening this minute and you would rather say so than write it down, we are in #ShadowSquad on irc.baconsvin.org (port 6697, TLS). Follow up by email if it needs a record.
