There are now guides for reading mail in the terminal with mutt and alpine, browsing the web with w3m and lynx, moving files around with scp and rsync, keeping programs running under screen and tmux, building software from source into your own home directory, using your web space, and finding out who else is on the box.

Eleven guides in total. Every command in them was run on this server before it was published, so they describe this machine rather than a generic Linux box. See the Help section.

Every account has web space at /home/~yourname, and until today it returned 403 for everybody: home directories are private, and the web server could not read through them to find the files. It has now been granted exactly that one permission and nothing else, on every existing account and on every account created from here on.

Put a file in ~/public_html and it is live. The guide covers permissions, PHP and what the space is for.

The foreground and background process counts in your MOTD, in the control panel and in the usage command were all wrong. Login shells were being counted as background processes, and every logged-in session was charged for one process that belongs to the SSH daemon rather than to you.

All three now count the same way: foreground means attached to one of your login terminals, background means everything else, and session infrastructure is not counted at all. Your numbers may look different today. The new ones are the correct ones, and they are the ones your plan limits are enforced against.

Two-factor authentication is now available for all accounts, and is required for staff accounts as of today. Enable it from the security section of your control panel.
