A "foreground" process is one attached to your terminal session — you run it, it runs while you're connected. A "background" process is detached: it runs under screen, tmux, or nohup, which means it keeps running even after you disconnect. That's how you keep an IRC bot or ZNC bouncer alive 24/7.

Resource limits exist to ensure one account cannot degrade the box for everyone else. If you approach a limit, you will receive a clear warning. The limits are enforced fairly and documented in your account settings.
There is currently no charge for ShadowShells accounts. We are invite-only and not billed on a commercial basis at present.
